Guiding you through any family issues

By: Karen Carpenter & Rachel Compton

The family department at Ward Gethin Archer appreciate the difficulties our clients are encountering in these uncertain financial times.

We are conscious of the fact that with the new legal aid reforms which are due to come into force in April 2013, legal aid is going to be limited to a very small number of cases, most notably cases that involve domestic violence or that relate to the protection of children.

This means that for the vast majority of cases, legal aid will not be available.

We are fully aware of the difficulties and the cost implications of marriage breakdown, difficulties with regard to child contact issues, financial arrangements that need to be made when couples separate. When considering remarriage, in particular second or third marriages, couples may wish to consider pre-nuptial agreements, separating couples who do not wish to get divorced may require a separation agreement, and couples who wish to live together and require their financial arrangements to be formalised, a cohabitation agreement may appropriate.

Not only are we able to offer traditional methods of dispute resolution, but also the collaborative process which some couples may find helpful, with round table meetings with legal advisors to come to a solution that is family based.

All our team are Resolution members, which is a national organisation of family lawyers which promotes a non-confrontational approach to family problems.

Our family lawyers Karen Carpenter and Rachel Compton are available to speak on the telephone or to give a brief diagnostic appraisal of your situation and to try and guide you to the right way forward.

We are able to offer various packages to enable you to plan what needs to be done and when it needs to be achieved. We are able to organise fixed-fee appointments and financial packages for advising in divorce, financial issues and arrangements regarding children.

As far as financial issues are concerned, if it is likely that you will receive a lump sum at the conclusion of your case then we can come to an arrangement whereby legal costs are paid on receipt by you of those monies.

Please do not hesitate to contact our family team: Karen Carpenter on 01353 646105 or Rachel Compton on 01353 646108 or visit www.wardgethinarcher. co.uk
