Karen Carpenter

Karen Carpenter

Karen is a Chartered Legal Executive who heads up the Family Team based at the Ely office, where for over 30 years she has given help and support to all her clients who find themselves in situations of conflict and high emotion.

A member of the Law Society Family Panel and Resolution, Karen has undertaken mediation training and qualified as a Collaborative Lawyer in 2005 (for more information go to www.ccflg.co.uk).

Karen deals with and has experience of all aspects of Family Law including divorce, dissolution of civil partnerships, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements and all related financial issues, child welfare including residence orders and assisting grand parents and other family members to obtain Special Guardianship orders together with Step-parent Parental Responsibility Agreements.

Karen is a director of and sits on the management committee of the Ely and Cambridge Contact Centre.

Karen plays an active role in her home village. She enjoys amateur dramatics, reading and walking.

Chris Dewey

Chris is a solicitor, the firm's Managing Director and a key member of both the Personal Injury and Employment Law teams. He is a Senior Litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, a member of the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel, and specialises in helping Union members with accidents at work and occupational disease claims. He also has a wealth of experience advising on all aspects of Employment Law including claims for unfair dismissal, disability claims and TUPE transfers.

Sarah Fairbrother

Sarah Fairbrother

Having completed her training with Ward Gethin Archer, Sarah was admitted to the roll as a Solicitor on 15th September 2011 and is now one of the firm's Directors.

Sarah advises clients on all aspects of Family Law including divorce, civil partnership dissolution, in particular upon financial issues that follow a relationship breakdown. Sarah also specialises in issues regarding children such as child contact arrangements and residence disputes. Sarah also deals with advice and preparation of Cohabitation Agreements, Separation Agreements, Pre-Nuptial and Post-Nuptial Agreements and Change of Name Deeds.

Sarah is also a Trustee of counselling charity Relate and enjoys playing netball in her spare time.

Sarah is also a member of Resolution.

Kim Faivelowitz

Kim Faivelowitz

Kim is a Chartered Legal Executive and a Director, working in the firm's Litigation and Employment Law Department. Kim joined the firm in 2002 and she advises clients on a wide range of litigation matters, including contract disputes, debt collection, commercial and residential landlord and tenant disputes, property disputes, professional negligence and contentious probate. In terms of employment matters, Kim advises both employers and employees in employment disputes including representing clients in Employment Tribunal claims and she drafts employment contracts for employers.

Outside of work, Kim enjoys keeping fit and spending quality time with her family.

Nicola Firth

Nicola Firth

Nicola is a Private Client Solicitor and Director working primarily at our King's Lynn office. Nicola qualified as a solicitor in March 2012.

Nicola advises on a range of issues including wills and the administration of estates after someone has died, as well as making and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney. She is also able to help with Court of Protection matters, elderly client matters and Inheritance Tax Planning.

When Nicola is not at work, she enjoys all kinds of sports including netball and squash.

Cameron Green

Cameron Green

Cameron is a solicitor and Director of the firm and is based in our King's Lynn office. Cameron qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and specialises in all areas of commercial property including landlord and tenant matters, sale and purchase of land and the sale and purchase of businesses. As well as being able to advise on general commercial matters, Cameron also deals with sales and purchases of residential property.

Outside of work Cameron is a Governor of Sandringham and West Newton Primary School and plays cricket for Sandringham Cricket Club, having previously represented both Cambridgeshire and Norfolk at county level. Cameron is also a keen follower of Norwich City Football Club.

Diane Hewitt

Diane Hewitt

Diane is a Chartered Legal Executive and Director in the Private Client Team, working primarily from our Swaffham office. She joined the firm in May 2006, having specialised in Private Client work for 10 years before joining us.

Diane advises on the making of wills and the administration of estates after someone has died, as well as the making and registering of Lasting Powers of Attorney and the appointment of deputies through the Court of Protection. She helps to manage people's financial and property affairs when family are not able to do so.

Diane has recently successfully completed the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioner's Advanced Certificate in Will Preparation (England & Wales) and is now a STEP affiliate.

Diane enjoys gardening, walking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Desmond Humberston

Desmond Humberston

Desmond is a Director in the Private Client Department, some 25 years a solicitor, with the vast majority of that time spent practicing in Dereham as a Partner with Hood Vores and Allwood specialising in Wills and Tax Planning, Probate, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection work and Trusts.

He is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners and was, for a number of years, dual qualified as a financial advisor. He has held many appointments over the years as Charitable Trustee, Clerk to the Income Tax Commissioners, Chair of School Governors and Treasurer of the local PCC.

He has always been, and remains, a keen sportsman, running and playing racket sports, squash and badminton regularly and as much golf as proves possible. He also enjoys watching sport, walking, film, theatre and reading and vegetable gardening.

Adrian is a Director in the Property Team in our Chatteris office.

Adrian joined the firm in 1986 and qualified as a Legal Executive in 1993. He has lived in and around Ely all his life, and is well known and highly regarded in the local property market.

Adrian has built up an extensive client base of local builders and residential clients, dealing with sales and purchases of both freehold and leasehold properties.

Adrian enjoys playing and watching most sports, particularly skiing, and is approaching the time of life where gardening and reading hold increasing appeal.

Cheryl is a solicitor, Director and Head of the Private Client Department. She advises on wealth management, trusts, probate, wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and elderly client and Court of Protection work and associated tax issues.

She is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) and Association of Contentious Trusts and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).

Cheryl has successfully completed the STEP Advanced Certificate in Trust Disputes.

She is also a Notary Public.

In her spare time, Cheryl enjoys coarse fishing, gardening and sewing.

Richard Pennington

Richard Pennington

Richard is a solicitor and Director in our Family, Civil Litigation and Employment departments based in King's Lynn.

Richard became a solicitor in 1986, and has been a Director since May 1991. Richard brings over 20 years of litigation experience and deals with particularly contentious financial issues in divorces for SME owners and their spouses, commercial disputes of all sorts, contentious probate matters and professional negligence disputes for the firm.

Richard is a trained civil litigation mediator, a Member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers Association and a Resolution Trained Collaborative Family Lawyer able to deal with collaborative work, and is also a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists.

Richard is also the Chair of YMCA Norfolk and a trustee of a number of local charities, a church elder and a member of the Lawyers Christian Fellowship.

Sarah Scott

Sarah Scott

Sarah is a solicitor and Director in the Personal Injury team.

She has been with the firm since 1994, initially as a trainee, qualifying as a solicitor in 1996.

Sarah specialises in industrial injury cases including asbestos exposure, occupational asthma and accidents at work generally. She also deals with claims involving medical negligence, road traffic accidents, accidents abroad and occupier's liability accidents. She is a member of the Law Society's Personal Accreditation Scheme.

Sarah is also a Notary Public.

When time allows, Sarah enjoys playing the piano and bassoon (albeit not at the same time).

Andrew is a Solicitor and Director within the Property Department responsible for our Watton, Swaffham and Dereham Property teams and works from our Dereham Office.

Andrew commenced his career in law in the year 2000 and has since developed a proven track record within residential conveyancing, including, sales, purchases, leasehold & freehold, new builds, shared ownership, right to buy, share equity, re-mortgage and buy-to-let properties for investors as well as experience with commercial property transactions.

Andrew is often praised for his "helpful, fast and efficient service", making clients feel "at ease", being "reliably available" and his working relationship with other professionals.

David Snodgrass

David Snodgrass

David is the firm's first non-lawyer manager, an accountant by profession, and the firm's Finance Director.

He has responsibility for managing all aspects of the firm's finances, including client money transactions, and is also the nominated Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA).

He joined Ward Gethin Archer in January 2015, having previously spent nearly 15 years in a finance and operations role in another law firm.

Outside of work David enjoys photography, running and walking with his family and dog.

John Thorogood

John Thorogood

John is a Director working in our Ely office and is a specialist in commercial, agricultural and residential property transactions. John qualified as a solicitor in 1982 and joined the firm in 1985.

His work encompasses sales and purchases of agricultural land, including farm sales and purchases, the sale and purchase of development sites; legal development of commercial industrial estates and the preparation of options, pre-emption and joint venture agreements. John also deals with partnership formation and franchise agreements as well as business start-ups.

John is a member of the Solicitors Benevolent Association and the Law Society Property section. He was a board member of Kings Forest Housing Association, and is currently Chairman of the Eric Drummond Mercer Trust, a charitable trust dealing with people with learning disabilities. John is a former Round Tabler and now a member of the Ely 41 Club (the ex-Round Tablers organisation). He is a member of Ely XT Limited, a charitable organisation responsible for organising the annual firework display in Cherry Hill Park, Ely. John was also the former Registrar to the Dean and Chapter of Ely Cathedral and was a former Governor of Soham Village College from 1996-2007, being Chair of the Governing Body from 1998-2007.

He is a keen cyclist and walker, having taken part in the National Three Peaks Challenge and having successfully trekked to Everest Base Camp.

Simon Wilson

Simon is a Director in the firm. He joined the firm in 2006 to lead the expansion of the Commercial Property team in King's Lynn. He has experience in all aspects of commercial property including landlord and tenant, site acquisition and disposal, and land development. Simon's client base includes a wide range of owner-managed businesses, property developers, entrepreneurs within the leisure industry, and established larger organisations. He also provides general commercial advice, and assistance with licensing.
